Welcome to Mrs. Calkin’s Fourth Grade Class

Dear

Welcome to fourth grade! I am so glad that you have been assigned to my class this year. It looks like we have a great group of children, some names that I recognize, and some new names that I am very anxious to get to know. Fourth grade is an awesome year and CSDA is an incredible place to be!

Here is a list of the supplies that you will need to have a successful year in fourth grade. You can find it on-line at http://www.brookline.k12.nh.us/main/Notices/supplies.htm. If you have trouble accessing this notice, please let me know. You can also check out our classroom website (http://calkin.cogent-minds.com/) and find the list there also.

I would like to ask for your help over the last few weeks of summer. If you can’t help out, no problem! If you can, that’s great, thanks so much!

1) Keep your eyes open for any interesting, beautiful or unusual plants, leaves, seeds or flowers while you are on vacation, or outside playing. If you see any, would you please save them or take a picture and bring it in to share with the class. Our first science unit is plants and I would love to have some interesting examples.

2) As a year-long class project, we are collecting tabs off the top of aluminum cans. If you could ask your family and friends to start collecting them for our class, that would be awesome! Last year, the class collected over 46,000. I am hoping to collect even more this year. On the first day of school I will explain what we are doing with them (if you don’t already know).

If you or your parents have any questions or concerns about fourth grade, feel free to e-mail me (calkind@sau41.k12.nh.us), or call the school (673-0122) and I will get the message the next time I am in the building.

I look forward to seeing you on the first day of school (Monday, August, 31 ) but for now, relax and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Your Fourth Grade Teacher,

Mrs. Calkin

P.S. Oops, I almost forgot….here is your first homework assignment. On the first day of school, please remember this science vocabulary word.

You will need it for something important. Extra credit will be given if you can describe what it is and what makes it different from other plants.
